Steven Benson

Literacy Coach at the Detroit Public Schools Community District

Steven Benson was born in the suburbs of Detroit, but is now a proud resident of the 313. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 2011 with a B.A. in Political Science. After college, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Teacher for America program, where he taught High School English at his placement school for 5 years. He decided to return home to Michigan in 2016, where he taught English at both Henry Ford High School and Mumford High School. Now, he currently works at the district level for Detroit Public Schools Community District, where he serves as a literacy coach. His main job involves traveling from high school to high school and coaching teachers in the newly adopted curriculum and supporting them in whatever they need to improve their instructional knowledge and pedagogy.
